Review:
MaxBack is among a dozen different sites that claim to provide top dollar for your old smart phone, tablet or smart watch. Like some other sites, MaxBack will provide postage and will wipe the phone if you don’t do it yourself (but do wipe your data before sending). The site buys the phones itself and resells or reconditions them for sale.
The site gets excellent reviews on TrustPilot and pretty good reviews elsewhere, too. The only hitch: It doesn’t necessarily pay the most for your old cell phone. It is, after all, reselling the phone and will need to make a profit. On the bright side, the site makes deals and pays quickly — usually within 2 -to 5-days of receipt. So its a good option if you’re pressed for cash or don’t want to bother trying to sell your electronics directly to another consumer, which is likely to get you a somewhat higher price.
Recommendations
Other sites to consider when selling a cell: Swappa, which has you sell direct to other consumers, and TheWhizCells, which works much like MaxBack. Indeed, if you choose to sell through a reselling site like MaxBack, your best bet is to price check on several good sites — we’d also recommend ItsWorthMore — to see which offers the best price.
For information on why it’s smart to price check numerous sites, check our blog post on Best Places to Sell a Cell.
What their users say: From TrustPilot:
“Easy, fast processing of my trade-in Apple Watch for the full valuation quoted. Especially good considering this was handled during the huge snowstorm at their office in Erie, PA. My only gripe was that I had to supply my own packaging. Rivals like Gazelle send you a box in which to ship your device back to them.”
“I’ve used MaxBack to sell several of my old cell phones over the past several years. Their website is easy to use. They make it easy to send in the phones and they’ve always paid what they’ve said they’d pay for the phones. They also pay very quickly through PayPal. They’re a great company to work with. I won’t hesitate to use them again.”
From ResellerRatings:
“Pretty easy to use. Their prices are really dropping though. They used to be the best price hands down, but have dipped to the point that I have to check competitors before going to them. “
“Phone was returned. Not their fault nor mine. Sprint does some weird things. Got it fixed but sold back to apple for 25% more, though its apple gift money. “
