Review:
Remote is a job search site that specializes in professional services ranging from finance to software development. Applicants can sign up for free and get matched to jobs that meet their skill level and interests. If you’re matched, you are “invited” to apply for these jobs for free.
However, if you want to apply for a job for which you did not get an invitation, you will need to upgrade from the basic (free) membership to the $19 to $49 per month pro memberships.
The free membership appears to be a reasonable way to find some job opportunities, a few of which appear to be lucrative. However, it’s unclear whether users would get enough of a benefit from the pro memberships to justify the relatively high cost. And, according to the site’s terms and conditions, if you sign on for one of these pro memberships, you’re committing to pay monthly fees for at least six months.
Other sites to consider: Upwork, Belay and FlexJobs.
What their users say: From SiteJabber:
“I have been using them for a really long time and have never had any issues. Their support is really friendly and knowledgeable. I have recommended other users who feel the same. If you don’t want to pay for a plan you can also use them under their free plan!!”
“I am a new retiree too restless to just retire, decided to join Remote to look at what they had to offer. I was very pleased with the many job listings, and even happier with the freedom they give the users to choose at which pace they’d like to work/ search for jobs. Currently working on an ongoing small project with a small company. I choose my hours, I had my say in the budget and am very happy.”
“I am working with a client on remote.com right now and was pleasantly surprised to see how easy it is to log time and withdraw money. The cool part is that you can also look for a full time company job while doing small projects and gigs for individual clients. Also thought is nice that you can apply to jobs for free when you get invited. Thought it was good to try out the platform first.”
“I’ve been on this site for about 6 months and have a found a few freelance gigs. I have a few regular clients and have used Remote.com as a way to find jobs when the load gets light. Have recommended it to a few freelance friends as well. Nice design as well.”
“Reliable, user friendly and with many jobs posted every day. I have a full time job and I still find it easy to find jobs that suits my schedule. I never had a problem with the website and when I had had questions their customer service reps are fast and extremely polite and professional. Great way to find a job or increase your income by doing remote jobs.”

[…] The majority of complaints involve Freelancer’s fee structure, which is fed even the worker is not. In several cases workers say they were the winning “bidder” for a job; got charged the site’s substantial fee; but then the employer and job disappeared — or failed to pay. Still, since even many of the people complaining said that they had worked with the site for years, it must offer some benefits, which wins it at less abysmal Husl$core. However, be wary. There are several similar sites that offer jobs in a wide array of categories that don’t charge you for membership. Other platforms you may want to consider: Remote and Upwork. […]
