ToolBelt Review:
ToolBelt promises to connect contractors and trades people with clients, including other contractors. The site says it has two options: a free plan and a pro-plan that it calls SpeedSquare, which costs $400 per month.
The free plan gives you the ability to apply to as many projects as you want. But you can only post one project that you want to staff in any given month. You also can add up to two connections per month to expand your contractor network.
Free vs. paid
The SpeedSquare plan provides unlimited access to the site, allowing contractors to post jobs from a desktop, laptop or tablet. The pro plan appears to be geared to large contracting firms that may be looking to both advertise their services and regularly add subcontractors to their teams.
For a large firm doing millions in work each month, ToolBelt’s $400 monthly fee is steep, but possibly still affordable. The cost is a bigger deal for small contracting firms and individual tradespeople, who operate on narrower profit margins. But we see no downside to signing up for the free plan, which may help you get referrals and subcontracting work from bigger players in your area.
The one caution: If you do sign up for the pro plan, know that that $400 fee is automatic and will continue to be charged monthly until you proactively cancel.
Recommendations:
Reviews on both the Apple App Store and Google Play are excellent, which is rare for sites that help contractors find work. Other worthwhile sites that help contractors find work are JiffyOnDemand and GreenPal (for landscaping).
We do not recommend several others, including Handy, Thumbtack and HomeAdvisor, which charge high fees for modest benefits.
What their users say (from Google Play)
During my 1st month of listing with Toolbelt, about a year ago, I had three requests for a general contractor to do interior remodeling. I have completed five projects so far, which included six major bathroom remodels and one gourmet kitchen makeover. The kitchen job has turned into complete remodel of one powder room, one guest bathroom, entire master bathroom, walk in closet and redesigning their upper floor. Highly recommend TB…5 STARS-Thank you for being a major part of my success.
From the Apple App Store:
We are a remodeling company who had the chance to try their service got over 20 applications for a project we posted within a week , Kelsy did an amazing job explaining how to use the features and get the best results from the platform. Highly recommended for small /big businesses who interested to grow and expand their portfolio with attention to details.
ToolBelt has dramatically helped us lower our sub contractor and in-house acquisition costs of labor. We have used many of these services over the years, and all of them having a learning curve. ToolBelt held our hand through the entire process, highly recommend!
It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for work or you’re looking for help let ToolBelt work for you. The app is very simple to navigate and the team of experts at ToolBelt are great at bringing contractors together. I highly recommend this app. –David, Owner Platinum Star Enterprises
User friendly
Really user friendly and Amazing staff. The pro team agents are really helpful. I wanted to subcontract a roofing project on the app but wasn’t sure how, called my pro team agent and was walked through the process. And it only took 5 min. Within an hour of it being up I got a call saying i already had 8 applicants. It’s a win win.
I was a bit skeptical at first since it was the first time I’d used an app to bid on jobs but it did exactly what it said it would.
I lost more than half my drywall projects during the pandemic. So I gave ToolBelt a shot and landed 7 drywall projects from 1 application I sent! I could not be more thankful for this app!!
We’ve been using the app for a while now. Have had many jobs come from the app as well as referrals from the contractors in the app. Great way to pick up steady work.
