Love to design unique jewelry? Two sites can help you make money with jewelry design — Etsy and Amazon Handmade. Here’s how they work.
Etsy
Etsy is one of the oldest and best-established sites to sell art, crafts and hand-made clothing, furniture, jewelry and notions. It is also a marketing machine, with a well-oiled process of turning one-time buyers into regular customers. As a result, it has become one of the top e-commerce sites in the world and one of the most popular places to sell anything handmade or vintage.
To sell on this site, you’ll pay a 20 cent per item listing fee and a commission on each sale. Commissions generally run 6.5%, but the site can add as much as a 15% “advertising fee” if your customer was brought in through an ad sent out by Etsy. However, small sellers can opt out of the paid advertising program. Read our full review on Etsy here.
Amazon Handmade
Amazon Handmade is open to artisans who make accessories, artwork, baby, beauty & personal care, clothing, shoes & handbags, home, outdoor & home care, jewelry & watches, kitchen & dining, pet supplies, sporting goods, stationery & party supplies and toys & games. If you don’t see your category listed, it’s not supported by the site.
To sell on the site, you’ll need to open a professional selling account for $40 monthly. However, the site waives this fee for approved sellers after the first month. Amazon also charges a 15% commission on all sales. Read our full review of Amazon Handmade here.
