What is Stackkly?
Stackkly is a peer-to-peer rental platform, which connects individuals with excess storage space with people who will pay to rent it. However, it currently only operates in Texas.
How it works
If you have unused storage space, you can sign up and create a profile on Stackkly. You’ll then follow the instructions to list the space you have to rent out.
Hosts set the rental rates and rules about when the space can be accessed and what can be stored.
However, there are a handful of common-sense prohibitions that apply to everyone. These include prohibitions on storing live animals, food, ammunition and explosives.
Stackkly review
This storage space rental company works very much like better established storage rental sites, Neighbor and Stache.
When someone wants to rent your space, they’ll send a message which you’ll get via both text message and mail. The site expects hosts to respond within 24 hours. The request will say who the renter is and what they want to store. You can accept or reject them, or ask more questions to determine whether your space is appropriate.
However, you can’t deny a rental based on race, gender, sexual orientation or disability. Indeed, the site expects hosts to make reasonable accommodations for disabled customers to get access, where possible.
Rentals can be set up as weekly or monthly renewals. If a host needs to cancel a recurring rental, the host must give the renter notice equal to the renewal period. In other words, if it’s a weekly rental, the renter gets a week to move their things; if it’s a monthly rental, they get 30 days.
Insurance
The site automatically provides 10,000 in liability coverage to hosts. However, you should also always talk to your own insurance agent to ensure you have adequate coverage. If you are renting out storage space in your home, for instance, many homeowner’s policies specifically exclude coverage when you’re using your space in a profit-making enterprise.
Requirements
You need to be 18 or older to sign up; have a email, phone number, address and valid ID; own or live in the property that you’re renting out; and keep the space that you’re renting clean, free from leaks, mold and fire damage. Provide at least one photo of the space you’re renting.
Commissions and fees
Customers, not the owner of the rented space, pay Stackkly’s 10% commission. Owners of the rented space pay only a $1 payout for weekly rentals and a $2.50 payout when their space is rented by the month.
Pay
Stackkly collects rent on the day the rental begins. The host receives payment 3 – 5 days later via direct deposit.
Recommendations
Stackkly offers slightly cheaper rental costs for hosts. However, the site is new and is only available in Texas. If you happen to have storage space in the Lone Star State, you can register with Stackkly here. If you’re anywhere else, consider registering your storage space with Neighbor or Stache.
In fact, even if you are in Texas, these other sites are better established, so they may be more effective at helping you connect with a renter. And keep in mind that there’s nothing stopping you from registering with all the sites. And that is the most effective way to get your space rented.
