What is BeeBizy?
BeeBizy is a kid’s-event planning platform that aims to connect parents with vendors of everything from cakes and photographers to character actors and balloon artists.
How it works:
If you have a service that would work well for a kids party, from playing a role (think Disney Princess or Clown) to providing bounce houses and other services, you simply register and create a profile.
The service recommends, but doesn’t require, that you pay $25 for a background check to enhance your profile.
If a client books your service, you’ll pay the site a 10% commission.
BeeBizy review:
The site’s set up is straightforward and attractive for freelancers. There are no fees to list your services here. But if you book a gig through the platform, you’ll pay a 10% commission. This compares favorably to other platforms that invite performance artists and photographers, such as TheBash and GigSalad. With those sites, you pay dearly and upfront to list your services.
Pay
The site collects payment from clients when they book and passes 50% of that payment to the talent immediately.
You choose the payment method, which can be direct deposit, PayPal, Venmo or debit card. When the event is complete, talent receives the other portion of their payment within 2 or 3 days.
Cancellations
If a client cancels more than 7 days before an event, they get a full refund. Cancellations made 3-6 days prior to an event get a 50% refund; but last-minute cancelations are not refunded at all. In those cases, the talent gets 90% and the site gets 10%.
If the talent needs to cancel, the client gets a 100% refund. However, if you cancel your bookings too often, the site may remove your profile.
One problem
BeeBizy is still young and has yet to draw enough clients to ensure that freelancers will find much work. This is particularly true outside of Los Angeles, where the company is headquartered.
Clicking through the app, you’ll find that most freelancers who have listed services on the site have yet to find their first jobs. With time and marketing, this will presumably change. And, at least here, you don’t pay anything unless you get a job.
Recommendations
That said, we see no downside to listing services on this site. (You can find BeeBizy here.)
And sites that serve well-defined niche markets like this can often find great success. You just shouldn’t expect quick bookings. Marshall says the most popular services on the site are for character actors — people to play, say, Cinderella or Aladin at a birthday party. Typically, freelancers charge upwards of $100 an hour for these gigs, so it’s good work when you get it.
