What is Dispatch?

Dispatch pairs businesses with independent drivers for same-day delivery work. The platform covers over 75 U.S. markets, concentrating primarily on business-to-business hauls instead of standard consumer drop-offs.

How it Works

Setting up an account won’t cost you anything. However, you’ll need to pay $40 for a background screening that covers both your driving history and criminal record.

The rest of the requirements aren’t complicated:

• You must be at least 23 with a minimum of two years driving experience in the U.S. or Canada.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
• Drivers who are 70 years or older will need to provide their DOT medical certification
• You cannot have more than 3 minor driving violations & 1 major violation in the last 3 years
• No felonies on the last 10 years
• No DUI/DWI convictions in the last 5 years

Once approved, you’re working through the Dispatch app. It shows available deliveries matching your location and vehicle. Each listing breaks down pickup spots, drop-off addresses, item specs, distance, and the price. There’s no bidding on jobs or negotiating rates.

Co-founders, Andrew Leone (CEO) and Ryan Hanson (President), started Dispatch back in 2016.

The idea originated when Andrew Leone, who previously ran a distribution business serving HVAC and industrial contractors, recognized a recurring problem: highly‑paid contractors and technicians were wasting time picking up parts for jobs instead of working on site. A better solution would be to have a runner bring missing materials to the site, leaving the contractors to work without time-consuming distractions.

Leone and Hanson set out to build a technology‑driven solution that would let suppliers and contractors orchestrate final‑mile and job‑site delivery without owning a fleet or diverting skilled labor.

That created the need for drivers, who use the app to browse available gigs in their area as they pop up, look over the route information, and grab whatever fits their day. The whole setup is designed around speed and getting things delivered without a hitch.

Variable Earnings

Every job shows your payout before you commit; they calculate it mainly through mileage plus item size. Dispatch doesn’t publish their exact cut, the industry data suggests drivers pocket somewhere between 80–85% of the delivery fee, with the platform taking the rest for operations.

For better pay, target dense urban zones where commercial deliveries stay busy during standard business hours.

Work Availability

Since Dispatch leans heavily into commercial deliveries, most opportunities cluster between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekends tend to be slow.

Your location makes a difference in how much work you’ll find. Major metros like New York, Chicago, San Francisco have steadier volume. For Smaller towns or rural areas, you might spend more time waiting than actually driving.

The app does feature “Hot Zones” updating in real time, highlighting where demand is spiking so you can reposition yourself strategically if you want better earnings.

Tools for Drivers: Tracking and Transparency

Dispatch’s app provides live GPS tracking, ETAs, and delivery verification tools for both drivers and clients. You’ll upload delivery proof, like signatures or photos, to ensure smooth payment and minimize disputes.

The system promotes accountability but also demands attention to detail—missed uploads can delay payment.

Fast Payouts

Dispatch supports Instant Pay, so drivers can access earnings immediately after job approval, perfect for covering fuel or repair costs without waiting for weekly transfers.

Challenges

Plenty of drivers appreciate the straightforward setup and transparent pay structure. But downsides exist. Specifically, job details occasionally miss the mark — listed weight or distance don’t match reality. Smaller markets simply don’t generate enough opportunities. And no one reimburses you for gas and time, if customers cancel or don’t show.

The app also can be buggy and support responses can lag. And, as more drivers join, there’s increased competition that sometimes pushes rates down.

Tips

Building strong ratings helps you gain more work. And being reliably responsive helps your ratings, so do that. And, of course, you’ll get more work if you are willing to work during peak business hours.

Recommendations

Dispatch is one of the more attractive moving and delivery gig platforms. (You can sign up to deliver with Dispatch here.) But it has many of the short-comings of other delivery platforms in that it can’t guarantee regular work and you don’t get paid to commute to the job. So if you live in a remote area, some gigs barely pencil out once you account for all of your expenses.

That said, if you sign up with multiple delivery sites, you boost the odds of being able to pick and choose jobs based on what’s most convenient and profitable for your location. Other sites worth considering include Mothership, Bungii, Frayt, GoShare, UShip and Citizen Shipper. (The last two are best for those willing to do long-haul moves.)

No complaints. I have been driving with this company over a year now. I love the fact that the support team is always on point. Especially with the response time & handling any situation quickly. I like that the app follows your location as well. So when I want to go work the charlotte nc & atlanta ga address I can still get jobs with them. The best part is the pay outs for each job over done is great. So I’m pleased all the way around. The zoom calls with drivers & staff are great too.

Their pay per delivery is also the best rate per mile you can get out there. Customer service is very quick to respond to our questions.

Not satisfied

Needs a better way to alert that there’s an order. I only did 1 order in a month, only because I just happened to look at my phone when an order was coming though.

Did one pharmacy delivery for them and haven’t done anything since because the payouts are a joke.

I have been driving for Dispatch for two years now. I was referred by a random person when I was doing one of my other gigs. When I started getting offers, it was not as slow. Now, I rarely get any offers near me. The offers that are sent to me are not even worth it.

Good sometimes, and not so great pay other times,but im not going to complain as long as they put money in my pocket. That’s all that counts at the moment. 1/5/26 my acceptance rate just keep dropping without seeing any routes this app is messed up.

The pay is not worth the time. You barely make enough to put gas back into your car.
