What is L&E Opinions?
L&E is a North Carolina-based market research firm that operates more than a dozen offices in major cities around the country. The site enlists consumers for in-person focus groups, as well as online research that can be done from anywhere.
How it works
When you sign up with L&E, you’ll click through some basic questions about you and your household, including your age, marital status, number of children living with you and your annual income range.
But to get the best chance at getting surveys, they’ll ask a litany of additional questions about where you bank, where you shop, what kind of Internet service you have, etc. You choose how many and which of these questions to answer.
Once signed up, you can browse their paid studies and answer additional screening questions for any that you’re interested in.
L&E Opinions Review
L&E is one of dozens of market research firms that look for consumer insights on everything from GLP-1 experiences to kid’s hobbies. Like the other market research firms, L&E pays generously to those who end up participating in a study, and particularly generously for those who get into an in-person focus group.
However, each study seeks very specific experience. So, while there are hundreds of studies available, each participant is likely to qualify for only a few. There are studies for people who smoke. Some for high-school athletes; a study for those suffering with pericarditis. And one for those who have had joints replaced.
And, even if you fit the profile the site is looking for, you still may be eliminated because of more granular requirements of that particular study. These can involve whether you use specific products or services, or simply your level of involvement in whatever the research is looking into.
Kid-focused
Yet, where other research organizations, like Maven, Respondent and WinnWinn Research seem to have more interest in business insights, L&E appears to be particularly strong in research involving kids. So, if you’re a parent with young children living at home, you may have a better chance at securing a study here than elsewhere.
The study on kids hobbies, for instance, requires the participation of a 9-12-year-old girl. Screening questions inquire about both your use of social media platforms and the child’s interest in certain products, including Legos, Barbies and Star Wars merchandise. The one-hour online study pays $100.
If you have a baby in size 2 diapers, there’s another study that pays up to $475 and offers free diapers.
Yet another online study asks about the TV viewing habits of 3-5 year-olds and pays about $100.
Finding your match
There are two ways to find a study with this site. You can wait for the site to email you because you fit the broad parameters of what they’re looking for. Or you can search the site for available studies based on either your city — they have offices in more than a dozen locations — or those that can be done online.
Pay
L&E pays participants in their studies with virtual rewards — usually Visa or merchant gift cards. The site says to expect your reward roughly 21 days following participation.
Recommendations:
Participants in L&E studies generally say they’re satisfied with how the study went and with how quickly they received payments. In fact, the only complaint we see about the company is the same with almost all of the research sites — it’s tough to qualify for the well-paid gigs. All too often you’ll get disqualified in the screening process for unknown reasons. That, however, is the nature of this type of research. The sites are somewhat mysterious about exactly what they’re looking for because they don’t want you to lie.
If you have kids living at home, we think this site is particularly attractive. You can sign up with L&E here.
If you like the idea of participating in this type of research, we also recommend Maven, Respondent, UserInterviews, WinnWinn and Rare Patient Voice (for medical conditions),
What their users say (from Reddit)
it is legit! I have done two research projects with this company. Great company. You go in and attend the meeting on the subject and afterwards you get a prepaid VISA debit card. Staff is professional and easy to deal with in every aspect. I highly recommend L&E Research Co. to make extra money easily.
It’s legit. I’ve done multiple in-person and online studies for them. Most in-person were Cupertinoish area.
From Yelp:
Good communication. Survey was interesting and well conducted. Payment was timely as expected.
I have done quite a few focus groups here over the years. They are a top notch organization that helps out companies in any way the need consumer input. Before you participate in a focus group, you have to go through a screening process (which is answering questions that the screener has received from their client). If you can pass through this process, you will be invited to participate for a focus group. It’s a lot of fun. The pay is great!
L&E Research is one of the local places in Raleigh that does the marketing research and surveys. Unlike some of the other places that mail you a check once the survey is over, L&E actually hands you cash right there on the spot. The amount of cash depends on the survey done, but I think I received $80 for some laptop study. There was another study that was full when I got there, but their policy is that if they tell you to come in they will still pay you even if they send you home and you never participate in the survey. Occasionally they have too many people, or they fill the group that you are in, so they will just let you leave.
