What is Printful?

Printful is a print-on-demand operation that allows creatives to upload art — or create a design on the site — and have the site print the uploaded art on one (or many) of 200+ products the site offers for sale.

How it works:

Creatives sign up; upload their art and say what they want and in what categories. The site publishes its prices and shipping terms, promising to fulfill orders within days of receiving them.

Creatives simply add a mark-up to ensure that they earn a profit on each sale.

Printful review

Unlike competitors RedBubble and FineArtAmerica, Printful doesn’t offer your products through its website. You need to have an e-commerce site of your own that you link to your Printful account. As a result, it offers better prices for it’s goods. But, you’ll need to do more of the work.

That allows you to essentially “white label” Printful’s products as your own. You can sign up to offer products through Printful here.

The site works with dozens of ecommerce platforms, ranging from Shopify and WooCommerce to Etsy. Those sites help you market your wares. Printful just produces the products and fills the orders.

Printful has a good reputation for quality and offers discounts to high-volume vendors. Those discounts allow the vendor to enjoy wider profit margins as they get increasingly successful.

And, although you’re doing the marketing, you can make a lot more with Printful than with other print-on-demand operations even when you’re not a super high-volume retailer. That’s simply because their rates reflect the fact that you’re doing the marketing. They also have a wider array of products than most other print-on-demand options.

Recommendations

We like this site a lot. (You can sign up with Printful here.)

However, because the site doesn’t sell your products directly, you must account for additional cost of having a Spotify or WooCommerce account when you try to compare its prices to that of all-service competitors like Society6 or RedBubble.

That said, there’s nothing in the site’s terms that require you to offer your art exclusively. So, you can sign up with Printful and have accounts with other print-on-demand shops, as well.

What their users say: (from TrustPilot)

I’m opening a new store under a different niche. This will be my 2nd store using Printful. I love them, however, they really need to up their Quality Control. I ordered a sample and the design was completely crooked/slanted. They resolved the issue same day and a reshipment was issued. But if something is visibly off, please don’t be lazy and just push it forward. Reprint it. Their QC needs to treat each print with care. What if a customer or high end influencer received that? My business would be dead before it got started. Overall, I enjoy the ease of Printful. Just please work on QC

Pretty pleased

I’m pretty pleased with the service y’all provide. Hoping in the future delivery times could be quicker. That’s a complaint. And in terms of hat designs widen the specifications, add more colors for design options and add some more Snapbacks. All in all i love the Printful.

I have been working with Printful for a few years now, to fulfill my original artwork and designs on specific clothing and accessory products. The all over print hoodies are superb, amazing quality and fulfillment time is fairly quick, considering they are a full print, cut and sew garment. The swimsuits are fantastic, both print and stitching as well as comfort, as are a number of other all over print clothing items. Most recently, I’ve been blown away by the laptop sleeve I ordered. I’ve had no quality, fulfillment or shipping issues with my orders. They can be a little on the higher price side, but for their specific unique to them products, it is worth it. I will continue to work with them in future.
