What is Money Well?

Money Well is a smart phone application that promises to pay you money for playing games.

How it works

Outside of having a smart phone there are no real requirements to sign up for Money Well. You simply need to download the app and then pick a few games that you want to play. The site will track your playing time and pay you by the minute.

It’s important to note that you have to go through Money Well to get monetary credit for playing the game. You cannot go to the game-playing app directly. And you’ll need to disable any battery-saving technology on your phone, so that the app can track your activity.

The catch is the amount you get paid by the minute is so small it could take you an hour to earn $1. This is particularly true if you happen to like the game that you’re playing through the site.

That’s ultimately because Money Well gets paid to convince people to try new games. So, you get more “tickets” for playing something you haven’t tried before. If you get hooked on a particular game, you’ll see that the number of tickets you get for each minute of playing decline to nearly nothing.

In other words, if you’re enjoying yourself, you’ll earn less.

Users also say that the site’s customer service department is largely AWOL. So if you have trouble cashing out, you’re on your own.

Points

The site gives you a bonus of 4444 tickets for just signing up and then might pay 40 or 50 tickets for every minute you play. But it takes 100 tickets to earn a penny — 10,000 tickets to earn a dollar. So likely earnings are in the $1 an hour range. But you’re playing games, right?

Cashing out

You only need the points equivalent of 50 cents to cash out. However, payment options vary by location. In some cases, you have access to PayPal.

But users complain that rewards are increasingly paid in discount certificates to retail stores and restaurants that require you to spend money to use them.

Recommendations

If you’re looking for games to play on your phone and have no expectation about making money, you can try this out. But if you’re hoping to make money playing games, Money Well is not the right place to do it.

If you just want to play games that you like on your Android phone — and you’re not too concerned about how much you earn at it — consider Rewarded Play or Mistplay. But these apps only work with Android devices. And you’re not going to earn even close to minimum wage. But at least these sites allow you to continue earning points when you’re playing games you like, so they’re a bit more attractive than Money Well.

This used to be a great app. I used it for years. I lost a couple of phones so I had to put it back on a different phone.  Now for the last couple months, I’ve been sitting with $5 waiting to cash out. It keeps saying waiting for verification. Emailed twice All I get back is automated. If you get this fixed I Would gladly give 5 stars. Refuse to play until somebody verifies me and catches it out.  (July 6, 2023)

When I began using the app, I received the proper credit at first. And I was even able to receive a couple of small Amazon Gift cards. As you get to higher levels, you earn less, but the big issue is that they stop giving credit at all. I contacted support on several occasions, but received no response. When I tried to cash out for a gift card recently, they subtracted the points but I never got the gift card. I do not recommend. (May 9, 2023)

It was decent. I did cash out. And then they said they needed face verification. Okay cool. But it fails. So you contact customer service because there’s no other way to verify. Customer service responds with a bot… And then no one helps you. (March 19, 2023)

Can’t get rewarded

Money Well completely stopped recording my game play therefore I can’t get rewarded anymore, no matter how much I reset it, update it, permissions are all on, I even turn permissions off, then back on again. I’m not sure what to do anymore. I used to be addicted. It was perfect. Idk what happened or what went wrong. If someone could fix this horrible problem, it’d be back to being perfect. But it’s awful as of right now. Please, PLEASE FIX IT. (March 15, 2023)

What a waste of time! Played for hours. Finally got to a point where I was happy to withdraw, went through all the steps, and then right when it comes to processing the PayPal transfer, it just loads. And loads. And loads. All for the sake of £2.90. Absolutely useless app, falsely promises reward for effort. (May 14, 2023)

False advertising

Reported for false advertising. Where are all the payout options? All I can get now are vouchers for services I don’t intend to use. Seems like it doesn’t work properly anymore. I reported the issue and all I got was an automated answer that PayPal can take a while to go through, when my issue was THAT IT ISN’T EVEN AVAILABLE!!! Add to that that points sometimes are simply not awarded (no support in those cases either). This app has become a scam, plain and simple. (May 2, 2023)

Does not pay!!!!!!!!! Uses the camera verification as an excuse. I have the best camera a phone has and of course the app says it can’t verify that I am human. Just a bunch of scammers picking and choosing who gets paid and who has wasted their time. Basically a bunch of thieves running this app. I didn’t even receive the points from just play for wasting an hour+ of my time. (June 16, 2023)

No more cash

Good at first, cashed out a few times, it paid slowly but surely. Then the payout options were removed. The only thing remaining to spend on are the “special offers” that you may not even be interested in or be able to afford to use. If you want the old functionality back, try Cash’em All. Don’t waste your time on this pile of ****. (July 4, 2023)

App does cash-out, however.. my girlfriend has been playing this app for a few years now and recently got me into playing it. Always cashed out to her paypal with no issues. I, on the other hand, do not have the option to choose to cash out to PayPal. Only have the “special offers” tab 2 choose from which only has options; credit @ different stores, gift cards. I don’t understand why I don’t have the regular cash out options but want it fixed. Support has yet to respond. (June 14, 2023)

I’ve won and cashed out no problem once before. This time, my newest cashout for $1.24 has been “in progress” for 15 days. I like this app and want to keep playing. But if I’m going to stop being able to cash out, I’ll be out. Will change my review if anything changes. (June 27, 2023)

It was nice in he beginning as I can play games to build up my credit. But once I have enough credit to trade in for PayPal or Amazon, which I can use, they decided to take PayPal and Amazon option away. (June 19, 2023)

Like it

Not a bad little money making app. I have earned almost $20. Its nice that you can have a friend and get a few extra points when they play too. I only gave 3 stars because when i download a game it says so many points per minute and then after i get it and play the amount goes down significantly. Still easy enuff to earn a few extra bucks. Please add pay pal or walmart rewards sometime to the ×10. (June 5, 2023)

Hate it

Reasoning behind the 1-star, I’ve played games that didn’t give me the final reward after playing the entire month. And now it shows the only thing for points I can download is TikTok. I want actual games and ones that actually give you your points. Not ones that require arguing with support in 3-5 emails that say I haven’t completed the goals. Then I send screenshots demanding my points, with no reply afterwards. Much better money making apps out there instead of dealing with their drama. (June 3, 2023)

I have to agree with the other reviews, this is a total scam. All the payout options have been replaced with offers for things that actually cost you money rather than pay out any. Total waste of time and should probably be removed from the app store to be honest.
