PreOwned Wedding Dresses Review:
PreOwned Wedding Dresses is likely to be the first or second site to come up in organic search when you Google “sell a wedding dress,” which is a signifiant advantage. However, it’s also one of the most expensive of our top-rated sites to sell a wedding dress because it charges a commission, as well as a flat fee.
How it works
Like the other sites that will sell wedding wear, PreOwned Wedding Dresses offers to list your gown (or bridesmaid/flower girl/mother-of-the-bride dress) for a flat fee. In this case, the flat fee is $25 for wedding dresses and $5 for everything else.
That one-time listing fee keeps your gown advertised on the site until it sells. No matter how long that takes. Since wedding dresses are challenging to sell, that’s important.
Site commission
However, with two of the other sites, that’s the only fee you pay. With PreOwned Wedding Dresses, you’ll also pay a 20% commission when you sell a dress. That makes this site significantly more expensive than Still White or Once Wed, which are also great places to list a wedding dress for sale.
Just for example’s sake, realize that 20% of $2,000 is $400. So, if you bought a premium listing on Still White, you’d pocket $1,965 from a $2,000 sale. At PreOwned Wedding Dresses, you’d take home just $1,575 on the same sale.
72-hour buyer review
If someone offers to buy your dress, The site will send sellers a pre-paid mailing label that offers shipment tracking and insurance. (Shipping is charged to the buyer.) When the buyer receives the package, she will have 72 hours to decide whether she wants to return it.
Assuming all is well, payment is made to the seller for the sales price, minus the commission.
Recommendations
Because of the hefty commission, we’d recommend that you try to sell your dress on Still White and OnceWed first. If that’s not successful after 6 months or so, you may want to list here. (You can list with PreOwned Wedding Dresses here.)
Realize that wedding dresses are pretty unique, which makes them harder to sell. So don’t worry if you don’t get an immediate bite.
What their users say (from Wedding Wire):
“I used this website in order to sell a bridesmaid dress that I knew I wouldn’t wear again. It was only $5 to list and I was able to leave the listing up until it sold. The listing was easy to do and after a little over 8 months, and a suggested price drop I finally had someone interested. We communicated via the website e-mail system, they paid me via paypal, and that was it! A great way to make sure your dress goes to someone who will actually use it rather than donate to a thrift store since so much of what is donated is simply recycled or thrown away.”
Sold a bridesmaid dress
“When searching for a website to sell my bridesmaid dress on I felt that preownedweddingdresses.com provided the best shopping experience and selling my dress was a breeze. It was easy to connect with the buyer and I sold my dress within 48 hours of posting it.”
“The overall posting experience was easy and clear! I appreciated that it didn’t take me forever to post my gown, but instead only about 10 minutes. My dress didn’t sell as quickly as I would have liked (I posted in March/April and it sold Sept/Oct), but it DID sell! For that I’m so grateful! I’m so happy that there is an easy and seamless way for us brides a way to get some money back on our gowns!”
