With the giant Millennial and GenZ generations working through their child-bearing years, the demand for babysitters has soared. And, where you might remember earning a dollar or two an hour when you were watching kids as a teenager, providing care for children has turned into a well-paid profession.

Sitters can expect to earn anywhere from $15 to $25 per hour. And you can earn more, if you’re CPR-trained or have experience in early childhood education. Websites and apps have also solved the age-old question of how to find sitters or clients who need them.

What apps are best to use if you want to provide care for children?

Care for children

The answer depends on three things: Your age; whether you want to provide care part-time or full-time; and whether you want to turn your side hustle into a business.

Young sitters

If you’re under age 18, your best bet for finding customers is an app called Bambino. Bambino allows kids as young as 13 to sign up (with parental permission) and post babysitter profiles. These profiles tell about you, your credentials and experience. You also set an hourly rate. Your final step is to connect your Facebook account to your profile and get a recommendation from someone you’ve babysat for before. The site then uses your Facebook connections to connect you with friends of friends. You can learn more about Bambino here. Or sign up here.

Adult sitters

If you’re over the age of 18, there are considerably more options. The best of the bunch is a site called Care, which connects caregivers of all types with people needing their services. Although the site charges a small fee to sign up and communicate with clients, the fee will cost you less than an hour of earnings. And since the site connects you with potentially millions of clients, sitters say it’s well worth the cost. You can learn more about Care here. Or you can sign up here.

Full-time sitters

If you want to babysit full time, consider ChildCareCareers — a site that provides substitute care at daycare centers and nursery schools. This site hires sitters as employees, paying benefits and at least minimum wage. But it gives you the flexibility to decide when to work. Learn more about ChildCareCareers here. Sitting as a business
