Mayple review:
Mayple connects marketing experts with companies that need them. There are no specific age or education requirements. However, marketing experts are expected to have two or more years of experience in their specific niche — i.e. SEO marketing; email marketing; social media, etc.
The freelancer will need to pass through several interviews with subject-matter experts to ensure the appropriate level of experience before joining the platform. Freelancers are also expected to provide granular detail about the marketing work they’ve completed in the past to measure its success.
Freelancers are matched to companies based on an algorithm that takes 25 factors into account. They also go through an interview and proposal process with the potential client before being assigned a job. Mayple assigns each client a liaison, who can run interference if the relationship between freelancer and company needs help.
Pay
Pay is set in one of two ways. If the client buys a “package,” the freelancer works for 70% of the package rate. Package rates range from $1,800 to $6,000, so the typical job would net the freelancer $1,260 to $4,200. (Mayple gets a 30% commission for its matching, collection and liaison services.)
However, if the client has unique needs that are not well addressed with a set package, the freelancer and client negotiate the rate, based on the time and experience the job requires. Mayple still takes a 30% commission.
Because all freelancers added to the platform are experts in their field, they earn professional rates. A Mayple spokesman says freelancers typically earn between $50 and $200 an hour, depending on their experience level and the complexity of the assigned work.Â
Freelancers are paid once monthly, on the 15th, following completion of work. In other words, you’d get paid on July 15th for the work completed in June. Click here to apply.Â
No restrictions
Like most independent contractor networks, Mayple does not restrict its experts from working with other employers. The freelancer has complete autonomy to take or reject jobs. However, once a job is accepted, the site expects freelancers to compete the contracted work. Assignments typically run for three-months.
The company will monitor the impact of your campaigns with its tracking tools, which can help you score future clients when your results are good. (It presumably also weeds out ineffective marketers, when results are poor.) Mayple also hosts a Slack network where freelancers can collaborate and ask each other questions.
Generous referral program
The site also has a generous referral program for freelancers who bring new clients to the platform. Since jobs are assigned by Artificial Intelligence, not who brought in the account, don’t refer your existing clients unless they need something you don’t provide. However, if a client needs “influencer” marketing, for instance, and that’s not your thing, the site pays up to $1,500 per new client referral.
Recommendations
There’s a lot to like about Mayple. And, while a 30% commission seems high, the platform is doing more than matching. The liaison service justifies the commission rate, in our view. However, since you are not restricted from working for Mayple competitors, you may also want to sign up with other marketing-focused networks, such as MarketerHire and FreeUp.
